Curriculum materials are based on the AFI Conservatory's approach to film education and were developed in alignment with California State Common Core Standards. AFI is pleased to offer these resources free of charge to help local educators bring film and visual storytelling into K-12 classrooms.
In 2017, AFI launched an expanded K-12 education initiative to foster filmmaking talent among the youth of Los Angeles: the AFI FEST Storytelling Bootcamp. This screen education program is designed to meet grade levels 9-12 standards for English Language Arts. In three classroom sessions, students learn the fundamentals of story and character development, are guided to begin a script outline and draft a first scene — and in the process, gain valuable skills in writing and self-expression.
